TikTok account hacked: how to recover it and secure it again

·3 min read·

Short answer

If you can still log in, change the password at once, link your own phone number and remove unknown devices under Settings and privacy → Security → Manage devices. If you are locked out, use Forgot password with every email and number ever on the account, then TikTok’s hacked-account help if that fails. Delete anything posted in your name, warn your followers, and turn on 2-step verification before you do anything else.

Signs your TikTok was hacked

  • Your password or phone number was changed without you.
  • Your username or nickname changed.
  • Videos, comments or messages appear that you did not post.
  • TikTok emails you about a login or a change you did not make.

If you can still log in

  1. Change the password: Profile → Menu → Settings and privacy → Account → Password.
  2. Link your own phone number under Account → User information.
  3. Open Security → Manage devices and remove every device you don’t recognise.
  4. Turn on 2-step verification in the Security menu.
  5. Delete videos and messages the attacker posted, and check your bio and links.

If you are locked out

  • On the login screen use Forgot password and try every email address and phone number that has ever been linked to the account.
  • If the attacker changed them all, contact TikTok through the hacked-account help and in-app Report a problem, from a device you have used before.
  • Keep evidence you are the owner: original video files, the signup email, earlier usernames, screenshots of your profile.

If the account was banned while hacked

Scam videos or spam posted by an attacker can get the account banned. Appeal from the ban notice and say clearly that the account was compromised, when, and what you changed afterwards. How appeals work is in our TikTok ban guide; when the self-service routes dead-end, hacked account recovery is the work we do.

Keep it from happening again

  • A unique password and 2-step verification.
  • Secure the email account behind TikTok — it is often how attackers get in.
  • Ignore “brand deal” or “verification” messages that ask you to log in through a link.
  • Remove third-party apps connected to the account that you no longer use.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get my TikTok username back?

If the account is recovered, the username comes back with it unless the attacker renamed it and someone else has since claimed the old name.

How long does TikTok take to restore a hacked account?

If you can still log in, minutes. Cases handled through support usually take days, sometimes longer, depending on the proof of ownership.

The hacker posted scams to my followers. What should I do?

Delete the posts, warn your followers from another platform or account, and keep screenshots for the report.

Should I make a new account instead?

Recover the original if you can. A new account loses your followers and content, and opening one while the old one is banned can count as ban evasion.

Act fast: every change the attacker makes — email, phone, 2-step verification — closes another recovery door.
