Short answer
On the login screen choose Forgot password? and pick phone or email. If you signed up with another app (Apple, Google, Facebook…), reset the password there instead. If TikTok says “unrecognized device”, two-step verification is on — try again from a device you’ve logged in on before. No old device? Tap Recover account and give your registered email, phone or previous passwords. If you’ve lost the email you signed up with, use Need more help? in the app to reset your authentication method; TikTok says that can take up to 30 days.
Start with the right reset
- In the app: Sign up → Log in → Use phone / email / username → Email / Username → Forgot password?
- Choose to reset by phone number or email — whichever you can still reach.
- Signed up with Apple, Google, Facebook or another account? TikTok has no separate password for you — recover that account instead.
“Unrecognized device”
This appears when two-step verification is on and you’re trying from a phone TikTok doesn’t know. It stops strangers from resetting your password even if they have your email or number. Use a phone or tablet you’ve logged in on before, ideally on your usual network.
No old device: “Recover account”
- On the login screen tap Forgot password? → Recover account.
- Give what you can: registered email, phone number, previous passwords.
- TikTok’s support team reviews the request and replies — send it once and keep the details consistent.
Lost the email you signed up with
Use Need more help? in the app and fill in the form; TikTok uses it to verify your identity and reset your authentication method. TikTok says this can take up to 30 days. If the email account itself is recoverable, recover it with your email provider first — that’s faster.
If it was hacked or banned
Someone changed your details? Follow hacked TikTok account. A ban is a different route — appeal in the app: banned TikTok account, and mind the appeal deadlines.
