Fake TikTok account pretending to be you: how to report it and get it removed

·3 min read·

Short answer

In the app, open the fake profile, tap Share → Report → Report account → Pretending to be someone and choose Me. If you don’t have a TikTok account, represent the person or brand being copied, or the in-app report doesn’t work, use TikTok’s impersonation report form with a valid ID. Save the profile link and screenshots before the account changes its name, and warn your followers if it is contacting them.

What counts as impersonation on TikTok

An account that pretends to be you — your name, photos or brand — to make people think it is yours. Fan, parody and commentary accounts are generally allowed when they make clear they are not you. If someone is reposting your videos without pretending to be you, that is a copyright matter rather than impersonation.

Report it in the app

  1. Go to the profile and tap the Share button.
  2. Tap Report, then Report account.
  3. Select Pretending to be someone and choose Me (or the person you represent).
  4. Follow the steps and keep a screenshot of the confirmation.

On the web the same report is under the profile’s More options menu.

Use the impersonation form

The form is the route if you aren’t on TikTok, if you report for someone you represent, or if the in-app report keeps failing. You choose the impersonation report, add the account link, upload a valid ID and sign the statement. For a brand, trademark or business registration documents strengthen the report.

Evidence and follow-up

  • The exact profile link and username, plus earlier usernames if it renamed.
  • Dated screenshots of the copied name, photos and bio.
  • Messages the fake account sent to your followers.
  • Report each new copy separately — and if they post scams, report those posts too.

Persistent impersonators that reappear under new names need a coordinated approach: the right report for each account and the IP routes for your videos. That is our TikTok content and account removal work; the same steps for Instagram are in our fake Instagram account guide.

Frequently asked questions

How long does TikTok take to remove a fake account?

Clear cases reported by the person impersonated are often handled within days; form reports with ID review can take longer.

Will the fake account know I reported it?

TikTok says it does not disclose your identity to the person you report, except where the law requires it or it is needed to review the report.

Can my friends report it for me?

They can report it, and it helps, but TikTok gives most weight to the person impersonated or their representative.

The account is a parody. Can it still be removed?

If it clearly says it is a parody or fan account, usually not on impersonation grounds. If it scams people or posts private information, report those posts.

Report early and keep evidence: impersonators often rename the account or go private as soon as reports come in.
