Short answer
Check your inbox for Discord’s “email address changed” email: Discord says it contains a link to change the address on your account back. Then reset your password, turn on multi-factor authentication, and remove any Authorized Apps you don’t recognise in User Settings. If you still can’t get in, submit a ticket through the hacked-account form linked from Discord’s help article, with every detail it asks for — including any unauthorised purchases. Discord says its staff never contact users through Discord messages for support.
First 10 minutes
- Open the “email address changed” email from Discord and use its link to change the email back.
- Reset your password and choose one you don’t use anywhere else.
- Turn on multi-factor authentication.
- Secure the email account itself: change its password and check its recovery options.
Remove what the attacker left behind
- User Settings → Authorized Apps: remove anything you don’t recognise.
- Check payment methods and recent purchases; contact your bank or payment provider about unauthorised charges.
- Look through recent DMs sent from your account and warn friends who received links.
When you can’t log in at all
- Use the hacked-account ticket form linked from Discord’s help article.
- Give your username, the date it happened, the email the account should be restored to, and any unauthorised transactions.
- Send one complete ticket rather than many short ones.
- Discord warns that if an account isn’t secured, it may be unable to help recover it — so set up MFA as soon as you are back in.
How these takeovers usually start
Most start with a message or file from a friend whose account was already taken, or a fake “Discord staff” message claiming you were reported. Don’t log in through links sent in DMs and never share your password, codes or login QR codes. See account recovery scams and fake support emails.
Afterwards
Run the 15-minute security checklist on your email and other accounts that used the same password, and consider a passkey where it is offered: passkeys explained. Our hacked account recovery service works through official channels only.
