Video removal and channel removal are separate processes

Video-level removal runs on specific legal and policy claims: copyright (a formal DMCA takedown when someone uses your footage, music or images), the privacy complaint process (when you are personally identifiable in a video uploaded without consent), defamation in jurisdictions that recognise it, and Community Guidelines reports for harassment or hate content.
Channel-level removal is a much higher bar. YouTube removes entire channels for impersonation, for spam and scam operations, and for repeated severe violations — but not because a channel published one video you dislike.
The distinction matters practically: filing a Community Guidelines report when you actually hold a copyright claim is the single most common reason these requests fail.

What we need from you
- The exact video or channel URL, plus timestamps for the specific segment if only part of a video is at issue.
- For copyright: proof you own the material — original files, publication dates, registration or licensing documents.
- For privacy claims: confirmation that you are identifiable in the video and did not consent.
- For impersonation: ID or company documents matching the identity being copied.
- Any previous claim or report reference numbers.

We never ask for your password or verification codes. Claims are filed as a rights holder or complainant and never touch your own account.
Note that YouTube shares the complainant's details with the uploader in formal copyright claims — that is how the process legally works, and we always tell you before filing one.

What to realistically expect
Copyright claims with clean ownership evidence are usually the fastest route. Privacy complaints take longer, because YouTube gives the uploader a window to respond or edit.
An uploader can file a counter-notification against a copyright takedown, which can put the video back and shift the matter towards a legal dispute. We explain that risk before filing rather than after.

Frequently asked questions
Can you remove one video without taking down the whole channel?
Yes, and that is the usual outcome. Video-level removal is a claim against specific content; channel-level removal requires the channel itself to be the violation, such as a pure impersonation or scam operation.
Someone used my music in their video. What claim is that?
Copyright. If you own or exclusively licence the track, it is a DMCA takedown rather than a guidelines report — filing it correctly is what makes it work.
What happens if they dispute the takedown?
For copyright, they can file a counter-notification. If they do, YouTube may restore the video and the dispute moves to a legal footing. We assess how likely that is before filing, so it is not a surprise.
A channel is running scam ads with my face. Is that removable?
That is one of the stronger cases — it combines impersonation with fraudulent activity, which YouTube treats seriously at the channel level rather than just the video level.
