Pinterest account suspended or deactivated: why it happens and how to appeal

·3 min read·

Short answer

If Pinterest deactivates an account for breaking its Community Guidelines, you see a deactivation notice when you try to log in. Appeal if you think it’s a mistake: in the app, through the Help Center, or with the one-click appeal link in the enforcement email. Pinterest says it updates its decision if it finds an error, but it may limit how many times a decision can be appealed. In the EU and UK you can also appeal within six months through the Reports and Violations Centre. If you closed the account yourself, you have 7 days to reactivate it.

Why Pinterest deactivates accounts

  • Breaking the Community Guidelines, once seriously or repeatedly.
  • Pinterest groups the violations into user safety, account security (including impersonation and third-party logins), spam and intellectual property.
  • Enforcement uses automated systems and human review; before deactivating, Pinterest may first restrict features.

How to appeal

  1. Read the notice or email: it states the reason.
  2. Use the one-click appeal link in the email, the in-app option, or the Help Center contact form.
  3. Explain briefly why the decision is wrong — for example, a hacked account that posted spam, or content you have the rights to.
  4. Send one complete appeal; Pinterest may cap appeals per decision and per person over a year.

In the EU and UK

Under the Digital Services Act you can appeal within six months through Pinterest’s Reports and Violations Centre. If you still disagree, a certified out-of-court dispute settlement body can review it; its decision isn’t binding on you or Pinterest. More: appealing under the DSA.

Not deactivated — just can’t log in?

  • No deactivation notice usually means a login problem; use Pinterest’s login help.
  • Copyright removals follow Pinterest’s copyright process instead.
  • Closed it yourself? Log back in within 7 days to reactivate — see recovery wait times.

Avoid making it worse

Ignore anyone offering to “unban” the account for a fee: account recovery scams. If the account was hacked first, secure it with a session check; our hacked account recovery service works through official channels.

Frequently asked questions

How do I appeal a deactivated Pinterest account?

Use the appeal link in the enforcement email, the option in the app, or the Help Center contact form.

How long does a Pinterest appeal take?

Pinterest doesn’t publish a review time. It says it will review the request and reply.

Can I appeal more than once?

Pinterest may limit how many times a decision can be appealed and how many appeals one person can send in a year.

I’m in the EU — do I have extra options?

Yes. You can appeal within six months via the Reports and Violations Centre and then go to a certified out-of-court dispute body.

Pinterest also deactivates accounts for age-related reasons; those have their own appeal link in the deactivation email.
