Short answer
Start with the email account linked to your PlayStation account: change its password, or contact your email provider if you can’t. Then go to the Account Management sign-in page and choose Trouble Signing In? → Recover Your Account. If you can’t reach the email, or you see a sign-in ID, online ID or password change you didn’t make, contact PlayStation through its Online Assistant. Once you’re back in, sign out on all devices, deactivate your consoles, remove saved payment methods and review your PlayStation Store transactions. Then add a passkey and a unique password.
Recover the account
- Secure the email account first.
- Account Management sign-in → Trouble Signing In? → Recover Your Account, then follow the prompts.
- Lost your phone but have your passkey on another device? Sign in there and register a new passkey.
- No access to the email, or details changed? Contact PlayStation via the Online Assistant.
Lock it down once you’re in
- Sign out of PlayStation on all devices.
- Deactivate your consoles remotely.
- Remove stored cards so no more purchases can be made.
- Check your PlayStation Store transactions for charges you don’t recognise, and contact support about them.
Prevent the next one
- Add a passkey — PlayStation calls it faster and more secure than a password.
- Use a strong, unique password and a password manager.
- Set a console login passcode and only sign in on devices you control.
- “Require Password at Checkout” can block unauthorised purchases (it doesn’t work with passkeys).
How accounts get taken
PlayStation warns about direct messages claiming your account has a problem, QR codes from strangers and sites offering free virtual currency for your details. If you ever used one, change your sign-in method. Related: Discord hacked, report phishing.
