Short answer
Secure your email first — Epic calls it the key to your account: change its password and turn on two-factor authentication. Still able to sign in? Reset the email password, then your Epic password. Locked out? Try signing in through a linked account (PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Facebook, Google and others), then use “Trouble signing in?” on the sign-in page — a security code goes to your email so you can set a new password. If the attacker changed the email to one you don’t control, submit an account recovery request; Epic verifies your identity. Afterwards turn 2FA back on. Epic says it doesn’t give compensation for items or currency lost to a compromise.
If you can still sign in
- Reset the password of your email account.
- Reset your Epic Games password.
- Turn on two-factor authentication — Epic recommends an authenticator app over SMS or email.
If you’re locked out
- Secure the email first; recover it with its provider if you’ve lost it.
- Try signing in with a linked console or social account.
- Use “Trouble signing in?” on the sign-in page; a security code is sent to your email, then you set a new password.
- Still stuck, or the email was changed? Submit an account recovery request — Epic will verify your identity.
After recovery
- Reset the password again and turn 2FA back on.
- Use a password you don’t use anywhere else — leaked passwords from other sites are a common cause.
- Check signed-in devices on your linked accounts: who else is logged in?
Items and V-Bucks
Epic says its support team can’t grant compensation — in-game currency, cosmetics and similar — to players whose accounts were compromised. Prevention is the only real protection: two-factor on every app.
Fake “free V-Bucks” and support scams
Sites and messages promising free V-Bucks or “account checks” are phishing. Related: PlayStation hacked, how to report phishing. Our hacked account recovery service works only through official channels.
